⁣For many it is clear that the Bride of Christ, the Holy Catholic Church, is going through a most trying passion at this time. Some of the indicators of this reality include the large number of fallen-aways among our family and friends; the divisions among our families, parishes and the Church as a whole; the difficulty we have in making advances in practice of virtue and the spiritual life; the widespread practice of divorce; the difficulty in escaping from error and vice where ever we may go. A victim soul of the Church, St. Lydwine of Schiedem (d. 1433), shows us what the Church in a passion looks like. But she also shows how the power of Christmas is always available to those who are willing to respond to the Kiss of the Word Incarnate and be drawn to love the Cross. Few are called to suffer like this saint, but we are given a Cross to carry (primarily our duties of our state in life)...and Christmas gives us the power to kiss it, and be drawn to love it so that we will be shown where His Majesty feeds His beloved to keep them from going astray.
